Things to Do

Banjo pier Looe Beach Looe Harbour

In Looe you can spend a day on our sandy beach, or if you prefer, explore some of our more secluded beaches. Here at Ambleside we can provide you with the beach essentials (not including towels).

Looe has a large fishing fleet, so you may wish to take a look at the boat activity on the quay or even have a go yourself on one of the chartered boats here.

A ferry ride to Polperro or beyond can be taken, or if you prefer, a trip to Looe island or just across the river to West Looe.

Crabbing on the quay is great fun, and we can provide you with the line and bucket if you wish.

Ambleside is close to the Coastal path, and there are many great walks to be had. For something even more active, you may wish to Scuba dive or snorkel with Looe divers. You can organise activities for yourself such as Kayaking, Surfing Lessons, Horse Riding, Bike Rides, Archery and many other activities (even a Helicopter flight!), with active-8 the holiday activity company.

Looe also has numerous shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants to choose from.

Nearby Polperro is an extremely pretty fishing village and is also great for exploring. A little further is Fowey/Polruan, Whitsand Bay, and the essential visit to The Eden Project.

Plymouth is within regular bus or train routes, and particularly good is the train from Looe to Liskeard which runs along the Looe Valley Line, a journey which offers stunning views across Looe valley and walks. From Liskeard, a continuation of your journey would take you to Plymouth over the spectacular Tamar Bridge. Well worth the effort. There are also regular bus services to Fowey/Polruan and Whitsand bay, timetables can be provided.

We have only touched on the many things you can do here, and would be only too happy to offer any further advice.
